...funding bold, innovative projects that effect positive social change |
The Busy Bees of Kabwe, Zambia, a handicrafts collective of HIV affected women, received a new building last year through the UUWF Grants Program.

About the Program
For nearly 140 years, Universalist and Unitarian women have looked to the future and re-focused their organizations to meet the challenges of their day. The UU Women’s Federation continues that proud heritage with our UUWF Grants Program, which was founded in 2004.
This program supports bold, innovative social justice projects that affect women and girls and contribute to positive social change. It also funds initiatives that recognize the importance of the past, challenge the root causes and consequences of gender oppression, or highlight and celebrate women’s achievements.
Each year’s grant cycle begins with the October 15 deadline for proposals, with selection of the projects the program will fund announced shortly after the first of the year. In 2006, we distributed $15,000 in grant funding; $25,000 is allocated for 2007. |
Funding Criteria
Projects must be sponsored by a UU organization with 501(c)3 status
or a UU fiscal sponsor. Examples include: a congregation, a committee
of a congregation, an associate, affiliate or independent organization,
a UUA district, an identity-based UU organization, UU seminaries, and
campus ministry groups.
- The program welcomes proposals on a wide range of issues
consistent with UU principles.
-
Collaborative efforts are encouraged.
-
Applicants are encouraged to seek a diversity of funding sources.
-
Applications for matching grants are viewed favorably.
-
Grants are generally given for one year only.
-
Grants are made only to organizations, not individuals, and are not made to UUA
staff groups.
-
The program will not fund the on-going work of an organization.
