. . . supporting Unitarian Universalist women in scholarly, prophetic and innovative explorations of religious feminisms.

Grants Program:
Margaret Fuller (1810-1850)
Founded in 1989 as the Feminist Theology Awards, the Margaret Fuller Grants Program has funded over 35 scholarly projects. These have included creative endeavors in the arts, educational materials for congregations, and innovative performance events. Works in progress are welcome, as well as proposals for new projects. Grants range from $500 to $5,000, with completion of funded projects expected within two years.
Each year’s grants cycle begins with the October 15 deadline for proposals, with selection of the projects the program will fund announced shortly after the first of the year.

Who is Margaret Fuller
With her famous Boston women’s “Conversations,” in her editing of the Transcendental journal The Dial, and later in her book, Woman in the Nineteenth Century, Margaret Fuller (1810-50) is a significant and under-recognized prophetic voice from our Unitarian Universalist heritage.
Why Feminism*s*
From the program’s inception, vigorous discussion surrounded the term “feminism.” Was it too confrontational? Exclusive of those engaged in work they call womanist, mujerista, eco-feminist or women-centered? Revisioned in 2001, the program’s broadened context recognizes the long-fought-over, often rejected word “feminism” and honors the multi-stranded feminism of today by using its plural form.
